THE LAND
On the sunny Mediterranean island of Sicily, nestled between the towering mountains of Monte Barraù and Monte Castro, sits a lush, vibrant land where the herbs, flowers, waters, and earth have remarkable powers. This luxuriant botanical wonderland is called La Furtuna Farm, a family-owned, organic, and sustainable farm that holds a treasure trove of more than 12,000 olive trees (some of which are from 300 to over 1,000 years old), 500-plus unique plants (10% of which are medicinal wild herbs), and archeological remains from 2000 B.C. Here, the pure spring waters flow through the mountain slopes, nourishing the organic farmland with a reservoir of nutrients. Diverse soil compositions of clay, limestone, and sandstone imbue the plants with a unique mineral complexity. The land has been untouched for more than 400 years, so the plants that grow here are exceptionally rich in nutrition. As guardians of this breathtaking, biodiverse natural kingdom, we distill the life force of our plants into efficacious products for men, women, and children.
THE PLANTS
Steve and Agatha Luczo rediscovered this amazing land, regaining ownership of a family property that had been lost generations ago. Under their visionary stewardship, a world-renowned botanist was brought on to oversee the farm and unlock the secret powers of its plants. He discovered why these plants have been able to withstand the test of time and survive the extreme conditions that have affected Sicily for centuries. Grown on fertile, lush soil that has been untouched for 400 years, fed by mineral spring waters, and strengthened by their own plant communities, these botanicals are optimized for performance. Over time, they evolved into Extremophyte™ plants, wildly potent botanicals that thrive where others cannot. We harvest these plants in diverse communities to honor the natural ecosystem. With the help of our botanist, we are able to understand the secret language of our plants and tap into their powers for skin. We learned that plants work as a team, forming synergies and sharing strategies to protect and support one another. They function best as part of a diverse community, so we make sure to grow and harvest them collectively.
THE HISTORY
La Furtuna Farm holds thousands of years of history and heritage, shaped by a fusion of cultures — from Phoenicians and Greeks to Spaniards and Romans. Our first archaeological project was made possible by La Furtuna Foundation and led by a team of Italian archeologists. They discovered traces of human occupation dating to the Bronze Age (1800-1200 B.C.) and artifacts from the Copper Age (around 2500 B.C.). They also found remains of a settlement with buildings from Antiquity (500-300 B.C.) to the Early Middle Ages (700-1100 A.D.). We will continue to explore the hidden treasures of our land in hopes of discovering even older remains and remain committed to donating all findings to the Italian people.
THE CONSERVATION
Seventy percent of our farm falls within the Monti Sicani Biological Preserve, which is part of the Natura 2000 Network spanning central western Sicily. A strictly protected haven for rare, threatened, and valuable species, it is a resting and breeding place for a myriad of different plants, birds (including cliff-dwelling falcons), and other wildlife. This expansive bioreserve is designed to preserve Sicily’s biological history, ensuring the survival of its uniquely diverse flora and fauna. It conserves the genetic diversity of over 500 flora, 10% of which are medicinal herbs that flourish in our fields — and all of which are sustainably farmed.
La Furtuna has established an herbarium collection on the Farm to conserve local wild species and ancient heirloom varietals. To document their color, form, and DNA heritage, plant specimens are carefully dried, mounted on sheets, and categorized for scientific study. Heirloom seeds are saved and archived to pass on to future generations. Vulnerable species such as the rare Helichrysum rupestre are maintained to preserve Sicily’s genetic diversity. Through other conservation techniques, disappearing species such as the Biancolilla centinara olive tree have been revitalized and now thrive on our farm.

Chrononutrition™

Enfleurage
The precious lilacs in our eye cream are hand-foraged by lilac expert Charle-Pan on her six-acre Cherry Valley Lilac Farm in the Adirondacks, the world’s only supply of lilac enfleurage oil. The oil is extracted through the rare, ancient artisan process of enfleurage, which Charle-Pan, an environmental chemist, revived and modernized into a sustainable technique of utmost efficacy. Enfleurage yields the oil at its fullest potency, in its purest, most authentic natural form with a robust plant stem cell concentration, whereas conventional methods can diminish the power of lilac. Extremely labor- and time-intensive, this highly technical method uses cold-processing with fat to effectively capture the phytocompounds and skin-renewing properties of lilac and absorb the full scent profile of its fresh exhaling flowers. Lilacs have a short bloom time and only flower in spring. Each day of a 33-day cycle, handpicked lilac blossoms are replaced with fresh blossoms. During harvest week, Charle-Pan picks 30 to 40 of the most potent flowers by hand just to make 16 ounces. She uses about 16 bushels of flowers to create a half ounce of lilac enfleurage oil.

In our quest to create a high performance eye cream unlike any other, we searched the lands for rare botanicals with uncommon powers and discovered a variety of them growing wild on the one-of-a-kind, untouched soils of our own Sicilian farm. For our innovative Eye Revitalizing Complex, we sustainably foraged seven potent medicinal flowers known to be natural remedies for lines and wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles -- key concerns of the eye zone. Harvested from centuries-old olive trees on our Sicilian estate, this single-origin EVOO reflects the wild purity and mineral richness of its Mediterranean terroir. Naturally abundant in phenolic antioxidants and nourishing fatty acids, it enriches skincare rituals with sensorial pleasure while imparting a healthy-looking glow.
OLIVE SQUALANE
A featherlight botanical emollient derived from estate olives and prized for its remarkable skin affinity.
