Where are you based and what do you do for work?
I’m based in Chicago and am the Founder of Jenny Patinkin Eco-Luxe Beauty Tools.
What are some examples of rituals that help you feel your best + achieve your life’s purpose? When did you start doing these?
Exercise has become even more important to me since Covid. I try to carve out at least an hour every day to work up a sweat while leaving my phone and email (and brain!) in another room. It’s brought me the ability to release my tension so that I can be still with my thoughts later.
When I can get outside to take a walk in a forest, I find it incredibly centering and grounding. Being in the trees is a whole sensory experience for me. I especially love the sound of the path crunching underfoot and seeing all the many shades of green in the trees … Nothing makes me happier.
How do you keep these rituals alive and strong (especially during hard times or heading into a new chapter)?
I can’t NOT keep them alive and strong. They have become a habit and my whole day gets thrown off if I don’t do them.
In 2020, we were “forced” - to be more self-reflective and slow down. What rituals did you incorporate into your life during this changing time? Are there any you want to bring with you in 2021?
One of the rituals I incorporated into my life during this changing time was using a Rose Quartz Gua Sha tool daily. I had always been a face roller fan because I was always on the go and they’re quick-fix tools that you can use basically anytime, anywhere, like in the back of a cab or on a flight. I had never slowed down enough to really embrace Gua Sha because it requires a slower pace and a different type of mindfulness, which I really embraced during quarantine. I call them Mind/Body/Spirit tools because there’s a meditative quality to the way you use them while also getting cosmetic benefits and the boost of loving energy from the Rose Quartz. Do you practice gratitude? If so, what does this look like for you?
Verbalizing gratitude is important to me. I want the people I am grateful for to know it, so I speak it out loud. My husband, my work team, my friends, social media contacts, strangers who do or say something kind … I want them to know how much I value and appreciate them and that they have impacted me.
What do you now know about yourself that you’ve learned from practicing wellness rituals?
I know that it is hard for me to turn my brain off and just be but that I am a better wife, mom, friend and business person when I do.
Has setting mindful intentions shaped or affected your rituals? How?
Being mindful about my daily rituals has of course impacted me. If I’m doing them without being present in the experience – and I get distracted easily – then I don’t get the same feeling of peace and calm when I am done. It takes effort for me to be mindful and present, but I’m working on it.
