Moisturizing Oil: Why You Should Use It Everyday

Your favorite influencers are raving about beauty oil. Are you wondering if you’re missing out on something important? If you’re feeling lost in the conversation about botanicals, plant oils, and how they can actually help your skin, we can help.

The team of beauty experts at Furtuna Skin knows plant oils and skin. We’ll help you understand what moisturizing oil is, what it can do, and how you can add it to your skincare routine.

What Is Moisturizing Oil?

While your go-to lotion or cream may be formulated only with water, moisturizing oils are just what they sound like. Moisturizing oils or facial oils are formulated with blends of oils, waters, and plant botanicals. We know what you’re thinking: oil means breakouts.

Fortunately, that isn’t the case.

Since ancient times, plant-based oils have been used to improve skin’s health and radiance and even protect against the sun. The quality of the oil you use matters, and at Furtuna Skin, we look to the land (not the lab) for the most potent, natural ingredients.

The formula also matters. While oil is helpful because it creates a kind of barrier on top of your skin that seals in moisture, oil itself does not moisturize the skin unless it is combined with water.

That’s why we combined our wild-foraged, extra virgin olive oil with nutrient-rich olive leaf water to help moisturize and nourish the skin. While our extra virgin olive oil nurtures and softens the skin, our olive leaf water hydrates and revives areas of dullness. Not too heavy and not too light, our Biphase Moisturizing Oil is your ticket to hydrated, dewy, and glowing skin.

What Does Biphase Mean?

Our Biphase Moisturizing Oil is a dual phase formula — it contains both oil andl water to adequately moisturize and nourish the skin.

During phase I, our botanically rich, organic extra virgin olive oil works to deliver phenols, vitamin E, and omega-3s to nourish skin. During phase II, our olive leaf water provides crucial antioxidants to protect skin from stressors. Together, these phases work to rejuvenate the skin with key nutrients while also replenishing moisture.

What Are the Benefits of Moisturizing Oil?

Moisturizing oil helps hydrate and infuse your skin with nourishing ingredients. Plant-based facial oils work synergistically with your skin’s natural oil to support natural moisture in your skin.

Oils like jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, and single-source extra virgin olive oil are very close in chemical structure to sebum. This similarity makes them readily available to your skin and can help them absorb easily and more quickly into the skin.

Our Biphase Moisturizing Oil is formulated with olive leaf water rich with phytochemicals that help keep skin looking radiant.

Youthful-Looking Complexion

One of our favorite ways to address fine lines and wrinkles is the antioxidant-loaded, vitamin-packed benefits of high-quality oil. High grade oils, like Furtuna extra virgin olive oil, contain important plant compounds and vitamins (like vitamin C) that some people believe can help maintain youthful-looking skin, support proper skin elasticity, and keep the skin feeling firm.

Soothing for Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin often starts as dry skin, which can develop skin conditions that can lead to irritation. Plant-based oils and essences are soothing to the skin. Olive oil, in particular, is packed with essential fatty acids that can help protect your skin barrier.

Moisturizing oil also helps if you’ve gone a little too hard cleansing your skin. Harsh soaps and exfoliating scrubs can leave the skin parched and strip your skin barrier of its natural moisture. Moisturizing oil can help support the skin barrier and promote natural hydration.

Antioxidant Protection

Antioxidants can help protect your skin from free radicals. Free radicals can damage your skin cells and cause them to age faster than they should.

Free radical damage can also cause all skin types (even oily skin) to become dry and dull. However, antioxidants found in plant oils can act like shields of protection by helping track down and ward off harmful free radicals.

At Furtuna Skin, we include our exclusive Splendore Anchusa® Complex in our Biphase Moisturizing Oil, which is clinically shown to block free radical damage by 100%.

Although you still need to protect your skin when you’re in the sun by wearing a high SPF sunscreen, adding a daily moisturizing oil that can provide antioxidant protection could help support your skin barrier and help improve the appearance of your skin.

Primer Perfection

Skin primers can sometimes have scary ingredients that aren’t beneficial for your skin — and might even be toxic. Using a moisturizing oil made with clean ingredients as a primer is an alternative way to prepare your skin for your cosmetics and may be more gentle than using a synthetic formula that could leave your skin feeling irritated.

Our Biphase Moisturizing Oil with both extra virgin olive oil and olive leaf water can create a perfect base for layering both liquid and powder makeup.

Ultimate Hydration

Sometimes, even the heaviest lotions and creams can leave your skin feeling dry. When this happens, it’s a good indication your skin might be dehydrated. Dehydrated skin needs nourishing care, and a high-grade face oil can help deliver hydration to support the skin.

Moisturizing oils can help combat dryness by delivering ingredients that act as both emollients and humectants, like vitamin E and extra virgin olive oil. Emollients work to soften skin and smooth over rough areas to improve texture. Meanwhile, humectants help pull moisture and water-based nutrients into the skin to keep it moisturized.

Normal face oils might use humectants, but since they create a seal around your skin, your humectant can’t effectively pull water in from the environment. Since our Biphase Moisturizing Oil contains these humectants and olive leaf water, it can help infuse your skin with moisture that lasts all day long.

Improved Skin Appearance

Let’s face it. Sometimes your skin looks dull and lackluster. Day after day, exposure to the sun, pollution, artificial lighting, and blue-light emitting devices can leave your skin looking a little lifeless. Moisturizing oils can help restore vibrance and moisture to your skin for a more glowing appearance.

How Are Moisturizing Oil and Lotion Different?

Admit it: in a pinch, you’ve casually used your body lotion to hydrate your face. We get it. But the problem is that a lotion is different from a moisturizing oil and delivers different benefits to your skin.

A lotion is water-based and might not moisturize as deeply as a dual phase oil. Even lightweight body oils work well for incredibly dry skin as opposed to airy lotions that can still leave your skin feeling parched.

Additionally, some skincare lotions often include ingredients such as alcohol that can actually work against your skin’s ability to stay hydrated.

How Can I Start Using Moisturizing Oil?

It’s completely possible to replace your regular moisturizer with our nourishing dual phase oil. However, if your skin is especially dry, you may use both to get more skin-quenching benefits.

If you’re nervous about making the switch, try introducing the oil to your skin every other day until your skin is accustomed to it. It’s also generally considered best to use a fragrance-free moisturizing oil that does not include parabens or other known skin irritants to make sure you have a successful switch.

At Furtuna Skin, we make it easy to swap your traditional skincare products with natural, potent, plant-based alternatives. Every product we carry is expertly crafted with a combination of old-world knowledge and innovation to help deliver hydrating ingredients to your skin in a non-greasy formula.

Which Oil Is Best?

Many plant-based oils offer potential skin benefits. Olive oil, argan oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, lavender oil, rosehip oil, coconut oil, and sunflower oil are all excellent sources of plant-based phytochemicals and ingredients that can help hydrate the skin.

At Furtuna Skin, we craft our Biphase Moisturizing Oil with our single-origin extra virgin olive oil and nutrient-rich olive leaf water. Extracted without heat from ancient olive trees grown on our private farm, our extra virgin olive oil contains revitalizing ingredients to help skin feel replenished. It’s a rich source of vitamins A, E, and K and works as a vehicle to deliver phytochemicals and nutrients to the skin.

How Should I Use Furtuna’s Biphase Moisturizing Oil?

Using moisturizing oil is easy but remember: a little goes a long way. You can use a moisturizing oil twice daily, as tolerated by your skin.

You can use moisturizing oil in the morning and evening. In the morning, apply our Biphase Moisturizing Oil after your cleanser, toner or mist, serums, and creams, but before your SPF. In the evening, apply after cleansing, toning, and applying serums or creams, but before applying any night treatments.

Simply shake the bottle to mix our oil and water phases, then massage a dropper-ful in your hands to warm the product before applying to your face, neck, and décollete.

We recommend using our oil after our Face and Eye Serum to give your skin ingredients that work synergistically for hydration and luminosity.

The Future Is Oil

The hype with facial oils is worth the publicity. Our Biphase Moisturizing Oil is an effective hydrator for any skin type and can support your skin barrier for brighter-looking skin. For skin that truly thrives, trust Furtuna Skin and our line of pure and potent products.
