The Power of Plant-Based Skincare

Before big labs or fancy machines came along, all medicine came from nature. Even today, health experts rely on nature to fuel their medicines. Like the food you eat or the landscape you paint, all medicine is made from nature.

That’s why we follow the ancient wisdom of Mother Nature and wild-forage our primary skincare ingredients from the environment around us. Here at Furtuna Skin, we look to the land, not the labs, to support our skin health. We believe that beauty is best when it contains organic ingredients and plant extracts, so we look to nature to inspire our skincare products.

What Is Plant-Based Skincare?

Here at Furtuna, we incorporate plant-based skincare ingredients to replace toxic chemicals, parabens, and plastics. Many of our ingredients are sourced straight from nature and paired with safe, proven synthetics for the ultimate results. Instead of harmful fragrances and harsh chemicals with names too long to pronounce, we use the best plant ingredients to power our formulas.

What Are Common Plant-Based Skincare Ingredients?

At Furtuna, we include organic plant-based ingredients, alongside proven, high-quality synthetics, in every skincare formulation so that your skin can soak up the natural nutrients of our carefully tended Sicilian botanicals. Here are some of the plant-based ingredients you can see on our labels.

Olive Leaf Water

Our olive leaf water is made from the olive trees that flourish along our 800-acre Sicilian haven. Through our infusion process, our olive leaf water retains the potent antioxidants found in the olive leaves.

Antioxidant compounds like oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol help support your skin’s natural defenses against environmental stress. Olive leaf water also provides soothing hydration to help replenish and brighten your skin.

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Our organic extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is made with olives picked by hand at our farm. Extra virgin olive oil naturally has many benefits for your skin – benefits which are compounded through our harvesting, pressing, and purifying process.

Extra virgin olive oil is a great source of oleic acid, which is an omega-9 fatty acid that can help fortify your skin barrier. Extra virgin olive oil also acts as a humectant, an emollient, and an occlusive, which means it has everything your skin needs for lasting hydration.

Wild Dandelion

Our wild dandelions are grown alongside our olives and receive the same nurturing care. These plants are seen by many as useless weeds, but dandelions serve a very important purpose in skincare.

Dandelions are rich sources of vitamin A (also known as retinol) and vitamin C (also known as l-ascorbic acid). These are two ingredients that are commonly used to fight off visible signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, as well as brighten the skin and support its natural collagen production.

Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is a rising natural skincare ingredient that we like to use because of its rich potency. This plant is an incredibly effective natural alternative to retinol due to its high vitamin A content.

Many natural skincare-enthusiasts even prefer bakuchiol over retinol, since it's much gentler and doesn’t have as many side effects. This ingredient not only improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and promotes natural collagen production, it also doesn’t cause sun sensitivity.

What Are the Potential Benefits of Plant-Based Skincare Ingredients?

Here at Furtuna, the benefits of our plant-based skincare ingredients are varied and numerous. From medicinal uses to beauty products, plant-based concentrates are the best skincare option for your skin.

Plants as Medicine

Traditional medicine relied on the power of nature to heal our bodies (and our dry skin), and modern medicine does the same. While some labs try to mimic the effects of nature with chemicals, nothing can compare to the raw potency of plants.

But using plants as medicine doesn’t always mean topical creams or tinctures. Simply fueling your body with organic ingredients can greatly impact your skin health

At Furtuna Skin, we believe that nothing is as potent as Mother Nature. Humanity has been using plants to fuel their bodies and skin for millennias, and we want to continue that tradition by using plant-based ingredients.

Plants in Synergy

We see collaborative relationships represented in nature all the time. For example, poppy flowers and olive trees have compatible nutrient profiles, so the florae naturally grow together in the wild. The plants are symbiotic, meaning that certain by-products of olive trees benefit poppies, and certain by-products of poppies benefit olive trees.

Here at Furtuna Skin, we find that mutually beneficial relationship inspiring. That’s we incorporate synergy relationships in our skincare line. Though an ingredient may be strong on its own, the best skincare products draw on the power of nature as a whole.

Rich Nutrient Profiles

Everybody knows that natural ingredients are more powerful, but what makes them so potent? The strength of plant-based skincare ingredients comes from the richness of their nutrient profiles.

A nutrient profile is, in layman's terms, the nutritional composition of a certain plant. These profiles measure things like antioxidant properties, acid levels, and the quantities of other important nutrients like vitamin C in a food ingredient.

Plant-based skincare brands are picky about their ingredients and only select organic ingredients with the best nutrient profiles. By choosing clean ingredients bursting with nutrition, companies like Furtuna Skin can promote natural products and the best skincare routines possible.

Skin Health Optimization

But all that would mean nothing without the innate benefits of natural ingredients to skin health. Plant-based skincare and vegan beauty products use only the best ingredients straight from the land to optimize their benefits for skin health.

At Furtuna Skin, plants are the first ingredients in our skincare. To transfer the power of botanical regeneration to our products, we use plants like bakuchiol and lilac stem cells to enhance your skin’s natural regenerative properties. With sustainably sourced vegan ingredients, skincare has never looked so good.

How Can I Incorporate Plant-Based Skincare Ingredients Into My Routine?

Ready to put these natural ingredients to the test? After hearing all the benefits of plant-based skincare ingredients, we don’t blame you! To incorporate natural ingredients into your skincare routine, try out Furtuna Skin’s olive-inspired products.

The Power of Olives

Here at Futuna Skin, we love olives. The Furtuna Skin Farm boasts over 12,000 olive trees, some of which are over 1,500 years old. But these small fruits are more than just a delicious treat. Olives are an awe of nature and a powerhouse plant-based skincare ingredient full of nutrients like squalane and vitamin E.

Hand-picked by local farmers, our organic olives produce the best olive oil for your sensitive skin. Unlike other plant extracts that are processed for months, our olives are pressed and processed at on-site Furtuna Skin mills within hours of being picked to ensure the most potent oil possible. This oil then joins other powerhouse plants in skincare products like our Biphase Moisturizing Oil to support collagen production in your skin and lock in essential hydration.

But our olive trees are good for more than just their fruits. To make the most of our ancient arbor, we harvest olive leaves too.

Our dedication to sustainable farming and zero-waste policies prompt us to make the most of every plant we process. The best ingredients can come from the most unexpected places, like our high-quality olive leaf water, sourced from the often forgotten olive leaf.

Unique to Furtuna Skin, olive leaf water is our secret weapon. The foundation of new products like our Micellar Cleansing Essence and Face and Eye Serum, this plant extract offers supercharged hydration, making it the perfect complement to protective olive oil. Perfect for all skin types and skin tones, our skincare products demonstrate the divine power of olives.

The Bottom Line

Sustainable skincare means more than choosing clean beauty brands – though doing that is important too. If you want to make a big impact on your skin and the environment, ditch your drugstore products and switch to plant-based skincare ingredients.

Made from the best ingredients nature has to offer, natural beauty and skincare brands offer eco-friendly and vegan products that are great for your skin and for the planet. Trust in the power of plant-based skincare ingredients to optimize your skin health.
